Buy it if
- Staff move between vehicle, site and customer several times a day
- You want one layer that works from October to April
- Appearance matters as much as warmth
Buy something else if
- People stand in sustained rain — a softshell repels a shower, it is not a waterproof
- The work is heavy and abrasive; the fabric will not take it and a heavier jacket will
Fit and sizing
Cut to go over a polo and a fleece. Anyone planning to layer heavily underneath should size up; most people should not.
Embroidery or print
Embroidery on the chest. It suits the fabric and the garment lasts several seasons, which justifies the cost.
Washing and working life
Wash rarely and cool. Fabric softener kills the water repellency, which is the single most common reason a softshell stops performing.
