Kitting out builders: what actually matters
Where the work happens
Outdoors, all weathers, on unfinished ground. Dust, mortar and abrasion. This is the trade that destroys clothing fastest — garments are consumables here, not investments.
Who you are kitting out
Site staff, a foreman, and often subcontractors who need to look like part of the firm on a client walk-round. Those two groups want different kit and it is worth ordering accordingly.
Which garments earn their place
T-shirts in summer and sweatshirts or hoodies the rest of the year, with a hi-vis vest over the top. Cargo trousers with reinforced knees. Keep the polos for the foreman and anyone meeting clients.
Embroidery or print
Print on the t-shirts and hoodies — they are consumables and paying to stitch them is money spent on a garment that will be a rag by autumn. Save embroidery for the softshells and the foreman's kit.
Summer and winter
The genuine seasonal trade. Summer is t-shirts and caps; winter is a mid-layer plus a waterproof, and a beanie in the branding rather than whatever they had at home.
Mistakes we see on builder orders
- Buying a smart polo for people laying blocks. It will not survive and nobody wanted it.
- One hi-vis vest per person. They get left in vans, on site and in the wrong jacket.
- Ordering everything in the same weight, then finding half the team too hot in June.
Builder kit questions
Does the bundle meet site PPE requirements?
The hi-vis items are EN ISO 20471 certified. Hard hats and safety boots aren't included — most firms buy those individually for fit reasons.
What happens when someone joins the crew mid-year?
Order a single top-up bundle at the same per-head price band as your original team size — we keep your logo on file.
Can we put the company name on the back?
Yes — back prints are ideal for site visibility and included in the Trade and Premium tiers.
